Sylvia at Waterfront

If you are in Brunswick, Maine
on the weekend
do visit the indoor flea market.
It is called the Waterfront Flea Market
and is in Fort Andross.

Tucked away in the middle
of this fascinating place
is
Sylvia.
Now Sylvia does not like
to have her picture taken,
BUT
She does not mind if I
take pictures of her dolls.
After all,
they are for sale.

Here is some of what
I got to see, today.

~Reproduction Bru~

Bru is a name which nearly
any doll collector recognizes.
The French dolls have been
reproduced in various forms
many times.

~Patsy Joan by Effanbee~
This one is hard plastic.

~American Child by Dewees Cochran
for Effanbee~
This beauty is also hard plastic.

~Dolly Rosebud by Horseman~
(another hard plastic)

~Rosebud Brother by Horseman~

~Applause's Raggedy Ann~
What a cutie,
don't you think?

And more...
The beautiful big composition darling,
Chatty Cathy,
more babies, more compo,
more hard plastic and vinyl...

Years ago
I started talking to Sylvia just about
dolls, but (in the interest of full
disclosure) I now count her among
my real friends. :)

Goodwill!

When I saw this little doll at Goodwill,
last evening, She was wearing a classic
hand crochet bed doll outfit.
You know, large full skirt
with a big hat.
Her hair was partially pinned
on top of her head.
Her arms, held on by rubber bands,
were now only held on by the arms of her gown.
I thought she was composition,
at first, but wanted to examine her,
anyway.  She is (ta da)
hard plastic.
$7.99.
Hmmm.
Well, with my discount card, that would be
$7.20, plus sales tax.
After some thought, I spent
the cash and brought her
home.
My friend, Sylvia, confirmed
for me (today) that I had got my money's worth.
She is a Saucy Walker TYPE.
Sylvia also restrung her arms.
The connection between her legs and
head seems to be out of order.
When you turn her from side to
side her eyes move, so I think
she once had "flirty" eyes.

I didn't need another hard
plastic doll from the 1950's,
did I?

I do admit to being a little excited. :)

(These clothes don't quite fit.  She has the toddler body type, so, most of my stockpile is not made for her.)

Fancy Christmas Dress

for my little hard plastic darling.

The doll has no identifying marks that
I can find.  This dress was donated
by a porcelain doll.

And... I Went Back!

I bought even bigger sister!

I had no excuse.

I just wanted her!

OK, no more buying, for now.
I guess.
If I have to.

Weekend Acquisition

Sweet Sue came to live with us, this weekend.

I'm sure I should have resisted...

Red, White and Blue

I think I posted these
pictures on
Memorial Day.

Today is sliding away so fast, I think
I may not have time to play.
I wanted to put something
patriotic up!

The hp doll is unmarked.
She may be a Pam.

The dress is my work.

Sun Suit

I made a little sun suit for Betsy McCall.

But I think I like it better on this older doll.

I think she's sweet.

Because She's Pretty

I found this unidentified beauty at a flea
market, months ago.  Just got to photographing
her, today.  (It's very cloudy.)
I have been enjoying some pretty dolls on this
blog, so I got inspired to look among my own
for a pretty doll I haven't blogged, already.

Little Brown Girl

Effanbee's Tiny Dru is an AA doll.
With her dress (by me) she reminds me of a niece.
While all three of my sisters' other girls have
beautiful pink and white complexions with blonde hair,
this niece has brown hair, brown eyes and a lovely deep tan skin color.

Wigging It?

Just received a new (to me) doll who wears wigs.  The very kind seller included 3 wigs and I have tried a couple that came from "thrifted" porcelain dolls.  Here are a couple of thrown together looks for my new girl.

Ain't she sumpin?
Doll is Goodreau

Midge, Brunette!

Forty years later, give or take, I have bought more
of the dolls over whose picture I dreamed.
I liked Midge's friendly face and her hairstyle
better than Barbie, really.  At first I thought
all Midge's were redheads!
